Bringing the South Indian cultural extravaganza Bridging to Europe

For the first time a film festival to celebrate the heritage and genre of South Indian Films is taking place anywhere in Europe. Films in India are larger than life & not only entertain the masses but also represent the social and cultural face of its people. Swiss South Indian Film Festival brings together South India’s finest filmmakers & artist to showcase their talent at an international level. Founded in Switzerland in 2010, this festival is the biggest festival of its kind for South Indian Films. The festival promises to showcase the best of films from South India and contribute to the vast talent of this industry. This festival provides an opportunity for Europe to experience the best of South Indian Films, and the passion south Indian possess for their films. Films from all the South Indian languages, viz. Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada will be featured during this 3-day long festival.

Switzerland has always been a favourite destination for film makers from South India to capture its breath taking landscapes in their films. To commemorate the Swiss natural beauty the first SSIFF is going to take place in picturesque beautiful Interlaken. SSIFF is an annual even that will make its journey to other well known cities like Bern, Geneva, Zurich and Lugano in Switzerland the years to come.

About The Festival

South Indian film industry makes the largest number of films in India. The highest numbers of films made in any language in India are not in Hindi, but in Telugu followed by Tamil, Malyalam and Kannada movies. South Indian movies enjoy a broad based audience overseas. The films from South India have always been known for their experimentation and social / cultural relevant messages. The cinema from South India has always stood tall making classic films with its strong content and story telling.

In a globalise world where ethnicities and languages are no longer a barrier for people to know more about each other, the Swiss South Indian Film Festival is the perfect gateway for people of Europe to know South Indian cultural and social trivia through its films. This festival is the window to showcase not only films made in Southern India to Swiss, but also a platform to boost social, cultural and economic collaborations.

Every year SSIFF would select two films from each South Indian languages, a total of 8 films every year to screen at the film festival for European and expat community. Artists, directors and technicians of the selected films will be invited as guests during the film screenings at SSIFF. In a star studded closing ceremony the best films and artists will be honoured at the week long film festival. This year’s SSIFF is taking place in Interlaken, Switzerland starting on 29th October 2010.
